Dr.-Ing. Hiba Arnaout

Darmstadt, Germany

I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Ubiquitous Knowledge Processing (UKP) Lab at TU Darmstadt, led by Prof. Iryna Gurevych. My research focus is on natural language processing, knowledge graphs, digital mental health, scholarly AI, and responsible AI.

I obtained my PhD from the Max Planck Institute for Informatics, where I was a member of the Databases and Information Systems Group (supervisors: Prof. Gerhard Weikum and Prof. Simon Razniewski). During my PhD, I worked on discovering informative negative statements from encyclopedic and commonsense open-world knowledge graphs. I visited The University of Edinburgh where I collaborated with Prof. Jeff Z. Pan. I interned at Bosch Center for Artificial Intelligence (mentor: Dr. Daria Stepanova). I received my Master's of Computer Science from The American University of Beirut (supervisor: Prof. Shady Elbassuoni).

📢 Starting 2027, I am actively seeking a faculty position in NLP and mental health AI — get in touch if you think we'd be a good fit!
